Pressure stemming from COVID-19 concerns has begun to compromise two of Michigan’s biggest festivals. With no end in sight to the mass quarantines and social distancing measures implemented to curb the spread of COVID-19, another round of festival cancellations may be beginning. Early season gatherings like Ultra Music Festival, South By Southwest, and Coachella all shared plans to cancel or postpone earlier in March. Now, Movement Electronic Music Festival has shared that it will reschedule to September 11th-13th and Electric Forest is reportedly exploring options in the September 10th-13th range as well. Movement’s organizers had initially shared that the festival would on as planned amid other cancellations two weeks ago. On March 19th, however, they announced their postponement in a statement.

Electric Forest hasn’t shared news of their own rescheduling, but leak account Festive Owl has alleged that they’re looking into September dates. At the time of writing, there are over 256,000 confirmed cases worldwide of the COVID-19-causing coronavirus that first broke out in Wuhan, China in December of 2019. To curb the spread, all are encouraged to wash their hands for over 20 seconds numerous times a day and implement extreme social distancing in addition to following all imposed curfews and quarantines. One of the first festivals to assure fans it was still going on as scheduled is one of the final events to finally succumb to the spread of COVID-19 and announce it is postponed. Originally scheduled for Memorial Day Weekend in May, Movement Detroit will now be held September 11-13. “Due to the developing COVID-19 restrictions and our ongoing communications with State and City officials, it is with a great sense of responsibility that we have rescheduled Movement 2020. […] We are receiving commitments from production teams and performing artists for the new dates and have been working around the clock to share some positive news we can all look forward to.” Tickets for this year’s original date will remain valid for the new dates in September OR for the 2021 festival. Refunds will also be available for anyone who can’t attend either. Read Movement’s full statement below.

Source: Movement Detroit Moves To September In Light Of COVID-19 from https://www.youredm.com/2020/03/19/movement-detroit-moves-to-september-in-light-of-covid-19/ Amidst all the awful news for festival season and the music industry at large, there is some good news squeeking in. Insomniac head Pasquale Rotella took to Instagram live earlier today to clear the air about upcoming festivals and also discuss future projects coming from North America’s top EDM event brand. After confirming all current planned Insomniac festivals are still on, he addressed a popular question among festival-goers in the electronic space: what’s going on with Middlelands? His answer is as promising as we could’ve hoped. Middlelands is making its long-awaited return in 2021. Although Rotella offered no further details on the renaissance-themed festival, this news comes as a bright light in rather dark times for the festival scene at large. Some may recall the event was barred from returning after its spectacular debut in 2017 at the grounds of the Texas Renaissance Fairgrounds after locals filed multiple sound complaints and even accused the festival of causing the death of an alpaca. Although it may not be coming back to the same venue, we’re sure Insomniac has great plans for the event and can’t wait to learn more details about exactly when and where it will take place. Check out the tweet below for more information on what was covered during the live stream.

Source: Middlelands Confirmed for 2021 Return from https://www.youredm.com/2020/03/19/middlelands-confirmed-for-2021-return/ At this moment, nearly 250,000 people worldwide have contracted COVID-19 and over 10,000 have died. Approximately 87,000 have recovered, but experts maintain that the situation will continue to get worse before it gets better. Long story short, we’re facing a serious global crisis. In times like these, it should be obvious that certain lines aren’t meant to be crossed. Of course, people are allowed and in fact encouraged to find humor and levity in the situation to help lift spirits. Videos of people recovering from the virus and viral videos of people singing in their balconies in Italy are prime examples. The line, so to speak, is crossed when you take advantage of these situations to promote your own agenda. Someone we never thought we’d have to address in this light is Kaskade, who (either he or his team) edited his upcoming song “Sexy” into a video of the aforementioned Italian balcony celebrations. “In Italy they already rocking #Sexy in quarantine! Out everywhere this Friday 3.20. #Inspired #NoWayIsThisFake,” he tweeted.
Had he used an older song to bring levity to the situation, or positioned his new song in the sense that he hoped Italians would like it and play it on their balconies, we wouldn’t be having this discussion. In fact, I’m sure many people wouldn’t find any issue with this at all. Certainly many people in Kaskade’s replies find humor in the meme (which this is not) or are telling others to lighten up. And honestly, had Kaskade not said anything else, I probably wouldn’t be writing this article at all. But his childish responses to some people demonstrate a level of immaturity that we didn’t think him capable of.
Even one of our own senior staff members wasn’t immune to his ridiculous retorts.
No doubt this article, too, will attract his ire. This sort of promotion, in addition to using COVID-19 or Coronavirus or Quarantine in marketing materials, isn’t against the law, but it is pretty cringey and reflects poorly on the author. Let your music speak for itself.

REAPER—one of the leaders in the newfound D movement in the U.S.—is back today with his latest track, “HEATSEEKER,” which offers further proof that the genre will pull in even more ears in 2020. Since his debut in 2019, anonymous producer/DJ REAPER has emulated chaos into transcendent DnB production. With last year's Monstercat-released EP, RAPTURE, the up-and-coming producer pulled in over 5 million streams while drawing support from acts like RL Grime, Zeds Dead and SLANDER. Additionally, he debuted his apocalyptic, masked-live project at Brownies & Lemonade’s Warehouse Party in L.A., which helped him earn a support slot on Kayzo’s upcoming U.S. tour. “HEATSEEKER” follows a string of collaborations with Awoltalk (“Hysteria”) and WHIPPED CREAM (“Shouldn’t”), and it finds REAPER returning to the sinister vibes found on previous solo releases. The track opens with an ominous, spacey intro, which sparks to life with an 808 lead. At the 40 second mark, the production welcomes a machine-like sound that feels as if it’s changing gears. The track does just that 20 seconds later, when a familiar, jungle-infused bass line takes over for the track’s first drop. “In the REAPER universe, the ’HEATSEEKER’ is a weapon of mass destruction intended to destroy individuals who choose not to conform to evil standards,” said REAPER in a press release. “This song is the anthem of the revolutionaries who destroyed the sinister machine.” Behind this aggressive narrative, REAPER churns out a progressive drum and bass tune that will draw casual listeners in while exciting longtime fans of the genre. Just two weeks after Bassnectar debuted a new drum and bass track at Okeechobee Music Festival, “HEATSEEKER” is sure to keep this one time foreign genre a hot topic in America and shows promise for his upcoming EP later this year.

Hailing from Las Vegas and after almost ten years in the production game, he excels with this release. We have the exclusive premiere of the collection’s title track today, which the artist describes as a “holy grail of sorts.” He also reveals: “I have been getting messages left and right from fellow producers/DJs asking to buy this song off of me since I first teased it on SoundCloud. There has been so much hype around it that I even went back and made the second drop completely out of hand.” Just to confirm, this is an undisputed banger and will definitely cause a stir in these bizarre times. As such, Amazon has “temporarily disabled shipment creation” for discretionary items through at least April 5.” Variety clarifies, that doesn’t have to do with the outflow of product from Amazon, but inflow. The new policy will not affect items already in Amazon storehouses, but rather the replenishment of non-essential items. This includes physical media including vinyl and CDs. In a statement to sellers, Amazon wrote: “We are seeing increased online shopping, and as a result some products such as household staples and medical supplies are out of stock. With this in mind, we are temporarily prioritizing household staples, medical supplies, and other high-demand products coming into our fulfillment centers so that we can more quickly receive, restock, and deliver these products to customers. For products other than these, we have temporarily disabled shipment creation.” Vinyl and CD sales made up over a billion dollars in sales in 2019 according to a study released by the RIAA. While the mediums won’t make much of a difference for the major streaming artists (Lil Uzi Vert’s album Eternal Atake was streamed 351 million times in the last week but sold just 7,800 albums), smaller distributors and artists might see a bigger hit if the hold stays in place for very long.

Given his past work with Slander, Seven Lions, Jason Ross, and more, his work speaks for itself at this point. Of course, it’s also not like Kai Wachi has never delved into the emotional side of bass music before, either. You might remember “Photograph” off his debut album DEMIGOD last year. Either way, “Run” spans both sides of the bass spectrum, starting out with a beautifully melodic and emotional rendition of the track before heading into darker, heavier territory in the final drop. While it seems like anything Dylan Matthew puts his name on is destined to be a certified hit, Kai now finds his name among the likes of Slander, Seven Lions, Dabin, Excision, and more — and that’s a good group to be associated with. Whether it’s pieces just being started or older projects being revived now that touring artists have the time, we should see release schedules really fill up in the next couple of months. And as more artists take to live streaming, on platforms like Twitch, we are able to catch glimpses into these collaborations. Case in point is Illenium, who during a stream last night showed some really interesting file names to fans watching. Among them are file names suggesting collaborations with the likes of Bastille, Seven Lions, Wooli, and more. There are even more project files suggesting collaborations with Kill The Noise, Dirt Monkey, and Said The Sky, as well. With his Excision and I Prevail collaboration due out this month, it seems we might be able to expect a lot of new singles from Illenium this year. He released his last album, ASCEND, in August of last year.

One bright side though, is that a lot of producers who are under lockdown (just like all of us), are taking their newfound time at home and blessing us with some new music. One of the first singles to come out of this self-quarantine period is the latest from dance legend Benny Benassi, “Everybody Hates Monday Mornings.” Teaming up with fellow Italian trio BB Team and YouTube sensation Canguro English, “Everybody Hates Monday Mornings” is a straight house banger. It’s also the perfect song to get your groove on to during your home quarantine party. “Everybody Hates Monday Mornings” is a rave song at heart, truly made unique by the droll, melancholy vocal track from Canguro English. If you’re wondering he posts cheeky and unconventional tutorials on learning English. His vocal on the track essentially recreates the scene from The Hangover, when all the main characters wake up after their epic night of partying. You can almost feel the pounding headache and confusion as English announces “My alarm goes off at 7 sharp, I shouldn’t have drunk all that aguardiente.” After that the super groovy drop comes in and you dance all your cares away. Benny Benassi is one of the most beloved international DJs around and his home country of Italy has been the hardest hit by COVID-19. Benny gave fans an update on his socials a little bit ago to let everyone know that he was doing just fine while the country was under lockdown.
